George Boole
George Boole was known as the father of Symbolic Logic. He, a self-taught mathematician, known more in the world of computing science. He is the son of a poor shopkeeper in Lincoln, England. Boole has only a little opportunity to pursue formal education, and prospects for advanced low also associated with family status. Like Leibniz, Boole self-taught Latin language when he was 12 years old. By translating a book, she received a scholarship (at the time, ability to speak Latin is a school social requirements).
After that, the academic desire to grow, and at the age of 15 years, he began his teaching career. While teaching arithmetic, she examines advanced mathematics and physics. in 1849, after 19 years of teaching in elementary school, he got a big change, he was assigned as Professor of Mathematics at Queen's College in the city of Cork, Ireland. The most influential work of Boole, "An Investigation of the Laws of Thought, on Which Are Founded the Mathematical Theories of Logic and probabilities," published in 1854. In his writings, he said "There are some general principles that are found in most natural language and logic of the show rules as the rule in algebra." With his statement, Boolean great step into the world of logic and abstract mathematical analysis.
Boole also criticized some rules, including Aristotelian assumptions, namely that all logical arguments can be represented into syllogistic argument. In doing so, he makes a symbol to represent the concept, as did Leibniz, but he also developed a system of algebraic manipulation to make them complete. The work brings together Boolean logic and mathematics. However, as happens in most new theory, symbolic Boolean logic is not accepted in total. In particular, one of the strong opponents of his work is Georg Cantor, which examines the origins of set theory and infinite quantities.
A few years after Boole work, scientific style changed, developed, generalized and deepened on the core concept. Currently, Boolean algebra became the essence of computer software and circuit design. Although the computer looks very complex, he is just manipulating the symbols that we know and adjusted with the aim of making.
